Expo Huíla 2012 employs over one thousand young people
Lubango hosts yet another edition of Expo Huíla. This 20th edition was staged as part of the festival of Nossa Senhora do Monte (Our Lady of the Mountain).
The initiative of the Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Association of Huíla (AAPCIL) attracted 130 firms from Angola and countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Namibia. Representatives of the provinces of Benguela, Luanda, Namibe and Huíla were also in attendance.
According to ANGOP news agency this year’s event was expecting a growth in business of around two million dollars. The purpose of the event was unchanged: to help the firms that were displaying products, to forge partnerships and links that might enhance their performance. The biggest challenge is still, according to the organizers, the creation of ‘new jobs, even temporary ones’. The president of AAPCIL, António de Lemos, also noted that AAPCIL has helped over a thousand young people to work for this event each year. ‘We’re making companies aware that it is a matter of great concern to find work for the youth, and they don’t need to bring their own staff to the exhibition, it’s better to hire young people which can be an added-value for their future performance’, he continued.
As in the previous edition, BPC had an interactive stand there, mostly to publicize the Call Center – Talk to BPC. This space also provided information on the bank’s various products and services.
Contrary to last year, AAPCIL managed to refurbish ‘a large part of the venue’, with the opening of restaurants and improvements made to the basic sanitation and thus enhance the event’s credibility, António de Lemos added.
In 2011, Expo-Huíla mobilized more than ten thousand people, between businessmen and government entities, and turnover reached three million dollars. 130 countries from southern Africa and certain provinces took part in the 19th edition, and a number of business partnerships were sealed, confirming the success of the event.
